An Evening in Hell: Two One-Act Plays by Pie Man Theatre Co.
October 18 @ 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Pie Man Theatre Company presents a double-bill of one acts, directed by co-founder Stephanie Ross, for the first production of its 2017-18 season – sure to be a thrilling evening in Hell. First is Jean-Paul Sartre’s classic one act play NO EXIT, a rumination on the nature of existence and humanity as told by the story of three strangers who are placed together in a room in Hell from which they cannot escape, and the slow psychological torture they each put the others through. Then, after the intermission, is a brand new one-act play by Pie Man co-founder Josh Brassard: HELL IS, which takes as its premise the tantalizing question, “What if Sartre’s vision of Hell, as depicted in NO EXIT, was right?” and then casts Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir (godmother of modern feminism and Sartre’s long-time partner), Albert Camus (philosopher and writer and one-time contemporary of Sartre’s), and Wanda Kosakiewicz (the young woman who was a lover to all three) into a familiar-seeming room in Hell and trapping them there. Old hurts resurface, love is offered and denied, and the question “What is Hell?” is finally answered. Or is it?
