Toy theater maestro and trained opera singer David Worobec singlehandedly sings and performs this full length play with miniature figures from a fully loaded miniature theater designed by Polly Plimpton.

After the success of shows like Oklahoma! and Carousel, Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote a show based on a book of short stories by James A. Michener called ‘Tales Of The South Pacific.’ The musical follows two romantic stories set against a war in the islands of the South Pacific in the 1940s. With its themes of war and race, South Pacific still feels relevant in our modern climate. With a lush score, and scenes of comedy and tragedy, South Pacific is truly a classic not to be missed. About David Worobec and Tophat Productions

Tophat’s founder and principal artist, David Worobec, is a classically-trained Opera singer and a talented pianist. David, Tenor, graduated from The Boston Conservatory of Music in 2011 with a degree in vocal performance with Opera emphasis, in the studio of Victor Jannett. He has sung and performed since the age of 4 and loves to entertain family and friends with one-man toy theater productions of his favorite musicals. Before he discovered the Victorian toy theaters, his characters acted on improvised miniature theaters built by his mother. His musical debut took place three years later when he was featured in the title role of Boston Bel Canto Opera’s production of Menotti’s Amahl & The Night Visitors. Many productions with companies such as Boston Bel Canto Opera and at the Boston Conservatory followed. Past productions include South Pacific, Camelot, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sweeney Todd, Little Shop of Horrors, Jekyll & Hyde, Les Miserables, Guys & Dolls, Kiss Me Kate and Brigadoon. New shows are always in the works so stay tuned to tophatshows.com!

David is Portland, Maine’s premier expert and practitioner of the art of miniature theater. Highly popular in the late-18th and 19th centuries, miniature theater delivers visually-stunning renditions of popular stage shows on a micro scale. Shows take place within the confines of a tiny stage, just a couple of feet tall, complete with curtains, sophisticated lighting, and impeccably detailed props and stage sets. Everything, including dialogue, stage movements, and musical numbers are performed live, in real time. The result: a visual and auditory marvel that is well worth an evening out.
