Parade With Us!

Parade With Us! is a community celebration in support of Portland’s immigrants with music, puppets, and exuberant self-expression that will lead into the culminating performance of A Message from Far Away. Free, open to everyone, and all ages welcome!

Beginning at Monument Square, our lively procession will make its way to Portland Ocean Gateway, where the final event will be held. We’ll be joined by the Ideal Maine Social Aid and Sanctuary Band, summer campers from The Root Cellar, and many friends from our co-host, the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, and other community partners.

Participants should gather at Monument Square at 12:30pm and be ready to begin parading promptly at 1:00pm (we don’t want to miss the final event!). Let us know you want to Parade With Us! Sign up at:

Remote Theater Project in partnership with Creative Portland, Mayo Street Arts, The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, and Portland Ovations presents A MESSAGE FROM FAR AWAY, an interaction with UK-based Good Chance Theatre’s The Walk – a traveling festival of art and hope in support of refugees. At the heart of The Walk is ‘Little Amal’, a 12-foot-tall puppet of a young refugee girl, who is travelling alone from Turkey to the UK. Representing all displaced children, many separated from their families, Little Amal will travel over 8,000km embodying the urgent message “Don’t forget about us.” Learn more about The Walk at:

Remote Theater Project is honored to be the only US organization to connect live with The Walk.
