Jan 12: Gordon Bok and the Januarymen with Murmurations 7pm
Tickets $7 in advance/$10 at the door: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/308672
Gordon Bok and The Januarymen are beginning their 17th year of singing together. In January of 1996 Gordon Bok gathered a men’s chorus, The January Men, to sing traditional and working songs of many cultures in Belfast, Maine. In need of tenors, the group soon expanded to include two women and became the January Men and Then Some. Over the years there have been 30 January Men including four And Then Somes. When not singing, they can be found working as carpenter, fisherman, harp therapist, tree warden, teacher, mother, jazz pianist, spinnery owner, father, composer, gardener, video animator, painter or wood carver. Two charter members sing with the group today.
Murmurations is a Portland based theatrical ladies choir founded this fall and is produced/directed by Elizabeth Armentino-Burd and Kelly Nesbitt with members to include: Kristin Kellas, Jerusha Robinson, Lilly Van Der Steenhoven, Shana Barry, Sara Hallie Richardson, Marita Kennedy-Castro, Deb Grant, Megan Hevenor, Parks McKinney, Kellie Ryan, Ceci Gilson, along with Elizabeth Armentino-Burd and Kelly Nesbitt. The ensemble incorporates voice, movement, and costuming.
