Community Arts Residency

ETHOS

Mayo Street Arts offers an artists’ residency program that provokes public dialogue through contemporary art-making and community based engagement. We are particularly interested in fostering and sustaining projects that provide development opportunities for our diverse, local and ever changing intercultural communities that reflect our East Bayside neighborhood of Portland Maine. A purpose of this residency is to invite participants who can strike a balance between non-conventional aesthetic and economic enterprise.  Each year the organization will provide a theme of which is the area of focus.

PURPOSE

Supports community development by providing opportunities for community members to showcase their talents and learn skills that will empower them to contribute to the economic and cultural vitality of their neighborhood, city and region.

THEMES

Food, fashion, fiber, materials, costume, urban gardening, mural making … etc
