Club Puppet

ABOUT CLUB PUPPET

Wednesdays 2:30 – 3:30 PM

Make and play with puppets! MSA’s Program Manager, Katie Page, and Executive Director, Ian Bannon, will lead you through creating your very own puppets and teach you how to bring them to life. Students will be encouraged to explore movement, sound, and character with cut paper, large masks, found objects, and more.

A permission form signed by a parent/guardian is REQUIRED for your child to attend Club MSA programs.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

KATIE PAGE returned to her home state of Maine following an interlude in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after graduating from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio where she studied Art History and Studio Art. Prior to joining the staff at MSA, Katie served as the Educational Resource & Program Coordinator at the Knock Knock Children’s Museum, where she oversaw the art studio, spearheaded an artist residency, and facilitated classes ranging from papermaking to cyanotype photography, and of course, puppets!

IAN BANNON has been longtime supporter, volunteer, and performer here at Mayo Street Arts. Ian has performed and taught puppetry in all sixteen of Maine’s counties (and beyond!) as a member of Freeport-based Figures of Speech Theatre, since 2005. His current community-based artistic endeavors focus on fostering intergenerational creative exchanges between students and residents of nearby retirement communities.

A Message from Portland Public Schools: Those in the PPS community who aren’t vaccinated or haven’t received boosters are urged to get their shot. COVID vaccines are available to students at our school-based clinics at Casco Bay, Deering and Portland high schools and King Middle School. Here’s a link to find vaccination sites in Maine. That site also contains information about booster shots.
